Version 2026.20

Text Input

An editable text field that reads and writes a tag on commit.

In Studio

Not available from the Components panel in this version. A view that already contains one displays it normally, in Studio and in Spectrum.

When to use

Use Text Input for an operator-entered string or number where a Slider's draggable range does not fit — a setpoint typed as a number, a free-text field.

Properties

PropertyTypeDefaultDescription
ValueString(none)Legacy write target, used only when the component has no value binding — same contract as Button's value field.
LabelStringValueThe caption shown above the field.
PlaceholderStringEnter value...Placeholder text shown when the field is empty and not focused.
Requires Signaturefalse, truefalseSame contract as Button's Requires Signature — defers the write to the electronic-signature dialog.
Input Typetext, numbertexttext (default) accepts any entry. number makes it a numeric entry field: an entry that is not a number is refused — nothing is written and the field shows an error — even when no Min Value or Max Value is set. Setting either limit also makes the field numeric.
Min ValueString(none)The lowest number an operator may enter. Blank means no lower limit. Setting either Min Value or Max Value makes the field numeric: an entry that is not a number is refused. Can be bound, for example to a limit held in the PLC; while a bound limit cannot be read, every entry is refused and the field says "Limit not available — try again".
Max ValueString(none)The highest number an operator may enter. Blank means no upper limit. Same rules as Min Value.
DecimalsString(none)Rounds an accepted entry to this many decimal places before it is written (0 to 10). Blank means no rounding. Only applies when Min Value or Max Value is set.
FormatString(none)How a number-mode field shows its value while it is not being edited, as a number pattern such as 0,0.## (3.5999999 shows as 3.6, 1234.5 as 1,234.5). Blank shows the value as-is, or rounded to Decimals if that is set. Editing always shows the full value. Bindable.
Out Of Rangerefuse, clamprefuseWhat happens to an entry outside the limits. refuse (the default) writes nothing and shows the allowed range, for example "Must be 0–100"; clamp writes the nearest limit instead.

Binding

Click Bind… on the Value property and bind it to a tag or an expression to drive the live value.

To let an operator change the tag from this component, tick Bidirectional (read-write) on the binding. Without it the component only displays the value.

Writes on blur or Enter, not on every keystroke — the field shows the live tag value while unfocused and a local edit buffer while focused, and Escape discards the edit.
