Summaries
A summary is a short, labeled paragraph about the state of one part of the plant: a tag folder or UDT instance, a device, a screen, or a group of alarms. It answers "what is going on here?" without opening five pages to find out.
Nexus gathers the data itself, as you, and makes one model call that has no tools: the model cannot go looking for more than it was given. You need the AI Use capability and the Subsystem summaries switch on (Turning Iris on).
Asking for one
| Where | How |
|---|---|
| ConfigHub | Summarize folder or Summarize alarms here on the Tags page, and Summarize on a device |
| Studio | Right-click a folder or UDT instance in the tag browser, Summarize with Iris; Summarize with Iris on the device list; the Summarize This Screen (Iris) event action |
| Spectrum and Lens | Put an Iris Summary component on a screen. It asks only when someone presses Summarize, or on a timer if you set one |
What comes back is plain text with these parts:
- the summary, with the tags and alarms it mentions as citations you can follow;
- AI-generated and a time stamp;
- the data classes that were sent, such as Tag values and quality or Active and recent alarm text.
A citation the model makes up, one that was not in the data Nexus gathered, is dropped. A summary is kept for 60 seconds per scope and per kind of caller, so pressing the button again at once is free. Refresh bypasses it and counts against your limits.
What is gathered
Up to 200 tags (values and quality), active and recent alarms, a little history where the historian is licensed, device status, recent audit entries for a folder, and the text and bindings of a screen. It is cut to 64 KB. Anything secret-shaped is removed first, and text from the plant is passed to the model as data to describe, never as instructions.
You see only what your role could already read. Someone without access to the audit log gets a summary with no audit entries in it.
Limits
A summary describes what Nexus gathered at that moment. It does not look at trends it was not given, and it can be wrong. See Safety and what protects you.
