Clients
Concurrent Spectrum sessions. Nothing else is metered.
The count is how many operator screens are open at once, not how many people have logins. A plant with forty operators across three shifts and six terminals needs six clients, not forty.
If the limit is reached, the new session is refused and the message says which limit was hit and what the count is. An established operator screen is never terminated for a licensing reason.
Every engineer who needs Studio gets it at no charge, on as many machines as they like. Paying per designer seat is a tax on the people building the system.
Included
Everything needed to talk to a plant. Screens, reports and notifications are modules.
Allen-Bradley, Siemens S7, Modbus, CLICK, Omron FINS, DNP3, BACnet/IP, and OPC UA as both client and server. Drivers are not sold separately, and there is no OPC server to license alongside Nexus.
Alarm evaluation, the alarm journal and the audit trail are in the base gateway. Tag history is the historian module. It records either way, so licensing it later brings the whole archive with it instead of starting empty.
Licensing
You buy the version you install and keep running it. There is no renewal that switches the plant off.
A licence entitles updates to the latest release within its platform generation. Crossing a generation is an upgrade, so a plant standardised on one version is never forced forward by a patch.
Licences are signed files, not a phone-home check. A gateway on an isolated network activates and stays activated with no route to the internet.
