Version 2026.20

Lens

Lens is a desktop shell that displays Spectrum full-screen. It is for the plant-floor panel PC that should come up in the HMI and stay there — no desktop, no browser chrome, no way to wander off.

This section is an overview

The full Lens guide — panel lock-down, auto-start and recovery — is still being written. What is here is accurate for the version named at the top of this page; installing and setting up a Lens panel is covered in full under Installing the client software.

How it fits

On a plant floor the machine is part of the equipment, and it should behave like it. Lens brings the panel up in the HMI, full-screen, with no desktop behind it and no browser furniture around it.

It shows the same Spectrum screens an operator would see in a browser, so the panel and the desk show the same thing and there is nothing separate to keep in step.

Lens ships as its own setup program and installs per user, on the panels that need it. Nexus's installer will not put it on a server that is never going to display anything.

Getting started

  1. Download and install Lens from Nexus's Downloads page.
  2. Set up the panel: add the Nexus connection on Lens's Hub, pick the view, and Lens opens it full-screen.
