Loop Indicator

A control loop at a glance: process value, setpoint, output, controller mode and deviation.

In Studio

In Studio, double-click Loop Indicator in the Components category of the Components panel. It is added to the open view, where you can drag it into place.

When to use

Use Loop Indicator for a PID loop on a faceplate or in a row of loops. Pick horizontal for rows, deviation for tight loops where only the error matters. It is the base of the PID Faceplate template.

Properties

PropertyTypeDefaultDescription
Stylebars, horizontal, deviationbarsHow it looks: bars (default, PV / SP / OUT columns with mode and deviation), horizontal (one PV track with the setpoint tick, the values and an OUT bar) or deviation (a bar centered on the setpoint).
LabelStringLoopThe loop name shown with the mode (e.g. TIC-102).
PVString(none)The process value. Bind it to the loop's PV tag.
SPString(none)The setpoint. Bind it to the loop's SP tag.
OUTString(none)The controller output. Bind it to the loop's OUT tag.
ModeString(none)The controller mode (a number or text). Bind it to the loop's mode tag.

PV MinNumber0Low end of the PV and SP scale.
PV MaxNumber100High end of the PV and SP scale.
OUT MinNumber0Low end of the output scale.
OUT MaxNumber100High end of the output scale.
Normal LowString(none)Low edge of the normal band drawn behind the PV. Blank hides the band.
Normal HighString(none)High edge of the normal band.
Deviation Scale (+/-)String(none)Half the width of the deviation scale (the deviation style). Blank is 10 % of the PV range.
Deviation LimitString(none)When the deviation (PV minus SP) is larger than this in either direction, it takes the Deviation Priority color. Blank never colors it.
Deviation Priority1, 2, 3, 42The alarm priority color used past the Deviation Limit: 1 red, 2 orange, 3 yellow, 4 purple.
UnitString(none)The unit shown after the deviation.
Value FormatString{:.1f}A Python-style format string for PV, SP and deviation (default {:.1f}).
OUT FormatString{:.0f}A Python-style format string for the output (default {:.0f}).

Binding

This component has no single value binding.

Read-only. An unknown value draws no bar and reads ---, never zero. Bad or stale quality hatches the whole indicator and blanks the values.
