Version 2026.20

Moving Analog Indicator

A linear pointer-on-a-track indicator showing a process value in context, with an optional desired-operating band, setpoint marker, and up to four alarm limits.

In Studio

Not available from the Components panel in this version. A view that already contains one displays it normally, in Studio and in Spectrum.

When to use

Use Moving Analog Indicator where a plain Gauge or Progress Bar is not enough context — when the operator needs to see, at a glance, not just the current value but where it sits relative to a target band and to Hi/Hi-Hi/Lo/Lo-Lo alarm limits.

Properties

PropertyTypeDefaultDescription
Process ValueString(none)The bound process value the pointer reflects (labeled "Process Value" in the Properties panel).
LabelStringPVThe caption shown below the track.
Orientationhorizontal, verticalhorizontalhorizontal (default) or vertical. The component is designed to be resized wide or tall to change orientation, per the underlying Ignition Perspective convention it mirrors.
Min ValueNumber0The value at the low end of the track.
Max ValueNumber100The value at the high end of the track.
SetpointString(none)Optional target marker position. Leaving it blank hides the marker.
Desired LowString(none)Optional low edge of the shaded desired-operating band. Leaving it blank (with Desired High also blank) hides the band.
Desired HighString(none)Optional high edge of the shaded desired-operating band.
Hi-Hi AlarmString(none)Optional Hi-Hi limit marker (diamond glyph, priority-1 alarm color). Blank hides it.
Hi AlarmString(none)Optional Hi limit marker (triangle glyph, priority-2 alarm color). Blank hides it.
Lo AlarmString(none)Optional Lo limit marker (triangle glyph, priority-2 alarm color). Blank hides it.
Lo-Lo AlarmString(none)Optional Lo-Lo limit marker (diamond glyph, priority-1 alarm color). Blank hides it.
Hi InterlockString(none)Optional high interlock limit, factored into the geometry alongside the alarm limits.
Lo InterlockString(none)Optional low interlock limit, factored into the geometry alongside the alarm limits.
Reverse Indicatorfalse, truefalseMirrors the pointer/track mapping to the other side of the range, matching the Vision-style prop of the same name it is a counterpart to.
Show Valuetrue, falsetrueShows or hides the numeric readout under the track.
Value FormatString{:.1f}A Python-style format string (e.g. {:.1f}, the default) applied to the numeric readout.
Track Endssquare, roundsquareThe shape of the track ends: square (default, as Ignition draws it) or round.

Binding

Click Bind… on the Process Value property and bind it to a tag or an expression to drive the live value.

This binding is read-only — the component never writes to the tag.

A value outside the track (a pegged sensor, a wire fault) still draws the pointer at the extreme, but with a distinct hollow marker, a caution color, and an arrow — never identically to a value exactly at the limit. Bad/Stale/Error quality on the binding replaces the entire indication with a no-data hatch rather than showing a stale reading as live.
